Two long-established BSPC member firms – Hawick based Haddon & Turnbull and Charles & RB Anderson in Jedburgh – have merged with Cullen Kilshaw, to give the combined firm a total of 40 staff and eight offices located throughout the Borders, which makes Cullen Kilshaw the leading solicitor/estate agency brand in the region.
Haddon & Turnbull and Charles and RB Anderson amalgamated in 1995 but continued to trade under their established names for historical reasons - both firms having been in existence for well over 150 years. However, following this latest move, they are now trading under the Cullen Kilshaw banner and staff continue to work as before, while their respective resident partners, Nigel Hall and Alistair Currie, join Cullen Kilshaw as consultants.
The merger coincides with the recent retirement of Jim Cullen from the business he and David Kilshaw set up in Melrose and Galashiels in 1981 and later expanded into Peebles, Kelso and Selkirk. David Kilshaw’s son, Ross, who joined the firm as a trainee solicitor in 2002, is now a partner in the firm and will be taking over from Jim Cullen in the Melrose office.
Commenting on the merger, David Kilshaw said: “Having opened offices in most of the larger towns in the Borders, this seemed too good an opportunity to miss to bring the CK brand to Hawick and Jedburgh. Both Nigel and Alistair are highly respected solicitors with excellent local staff and connections and we welcome them on board. For clients of both firms, it continues to be business as usual.”
